Our wines sing from the hilltops and dance on the valley floors.
Monterra wines are crafted from premium fruit grown in the Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley and Fleurieu Peninsula regions of South Australia.
Our estate vineyards are located on Monterra Road, at the southern end of the cooler Adelaide Hills, high above the outskirts of McLaren Vale. In contrast, the Fleurieu Peninsula vineyards enjoy a milder, maritime climate whilst the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale fruit is sourced from vineyards planted in the warmth of ancient soils in the heart of the valley floors.
The vineyards are vastly different in their climate, topography, geology, elevation and aspect. This enables us to select those grape varieties that are best suited to the particular region and provides us with interesting diversity in our wine portfolio. We choose grapes that express their true varietal characteristics: whether it be the delicately fleshy Pinot Gris, racy Sauvignon Blanc or spicy red-fruited Pinot Noir that all thrive in the Adelaide Hills, the renowned, rich-fruited and long lived Shiraz and Cabernet from Barossa and McLaren Vale, or the wild berry scented Sangiovese that grows so beautifully on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Our constant obsession with chasing low yielding, perfectly ripe, healthy grapes creates delicious wines that evoke a true sense of place.
Whether it is one of our wines such as the Pinot Noir, singing as a solo variety from "way up" in the Adelaide Hills, or an inspired duo dancing together such as the Cabernet / Tempranillo blend from "down on the valley floors," Monterra creates wines that will excite, inspire and reward your palate.
